Bremelanotide

01 /What it is

Bremelanotide (also called PT-141) is a synthetic cyclic seven amino acid peptide derived from alpha melanocyte stimulating hormone (alpha MSH). It is studied as a research compound at the melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4R) and the melanocortin 3 receptor (MC3R) and is sold as a prescription medicine (Vyleesi) in regulated markets for hypoactive sexual desire disorder.

02 /How it works

In research models, Bremelanotide binds MC4R and MC3R on central nervous system neurons and signals through the melanocortin pathway. The mechanism is studied in central nervous system arousal research and in body composition research adjacent to the satiety effects of the MC4R family.

03 /What researchers explore it for

Researchers have explored Bremelanotide in melanocortin receptor research, in central nervous system signaling research, and in body composition research alongside Setmelanotide and Melanotan II.

04 /Safety and interactions

Bremelanotide is for laboratory research use only and is not for human consumption. Not medical advice. Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

05 /Research notes

Peptide family: melanocortin receptor agonists, MC4R and MC3R subclass. Frequently compared with Setmelanotide and Melanotan II. The Apothify library lists Bremelanotide for encyclopedia coverage only because of its prescription status.
