01 /What it is
Pentapeptide-18 is a synthetic five amino acid peptide marketed under the INCI name Pentapeptide-18 (brand name Leuphasyl). Its sequence (Tyr-D-Ala-Gly-Phe-Leu) is modeled on the enkephalin family of endogenous opioid peptides and it is studied as a research compound in cosmetic skin care research.
02 /How it works
In research models, Pentapeptide-18 is studied for its ability to bind enkephalin (delta opioid) receptors on the surface of muscle cells in the face, where it is proposed to modulate the calcium signaling that drives muscle contraction. The mechanism is investigated alongside the SNAP family that includes Argireline and SNAP-8.
03 /What researchers explore it for
Researchers have explored Pentapeptide-18 in expression line research, in cosmetic peptide research, and in topical skin care formulation research.
04 /Safety and interactions
Pentapeptide-18 is for laboratory research use only and is not for human consumption. Not medical advice. Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
05 /Research notes
Peptide family: cosmetic peptides, enkephalin derived subclass. Frequently compared with Argireline and SNAP-8 in expression line research. Lyophilized powder; reconstitution and storage handling per laboratory protocols.
