01 /What it is

Magainin II is a 23 amino acid cationic antimicrobial peptide originally isolated from the skin of the African clawed frog in the late 1980s. It is one of the classical reference antimicrobial peptides studied in innate defense research.

02 /How it works

In research models, Magainin II is studied for membrane disrupting activity against a broad spectrum of microorganisms. Its mechanism is investigated in antimicrobial peptide research alongside other cationic peptides such as LL-37 and PR-39.

03 /What researchers explore it for

Researchers have explored Magainin II in antimicrobial peptide research, in innate defense research, and in comparative research alongside other host defense peptides.

04 /Safety and interactions

Magainin II is for laboratory research use only and is not for human consumption. Not medical advice. Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

05 /Research notes

Peptide family: cationic antimicrobial peptides. Frequently compared with LL-37 and PR-39. The Apothify library lists Magainin II for encyclopedia coverage only.
